I can’t believe it’s been over 2 weeks since my last blog post, and I can’t believe how much has happened since then!!! I’ve been updating my GoFundMe site and Facebook, but not this blog… Figured it was time to catch up. 🙂
Last I wrote I had about $835 raised for the little rural school outside of Cuzco that I’ve been volunteering at, and was over-the-moon excited about it. Now, just over 2 weeks later, we have raised $2,200 total!!!
Some things we have done so far with the money…
Replaced 24 broken (and/or missing) windows at the school
Taught the kids volleyball, with new volleyballs
Taught the kids how to make banana chocolate chip pancakes, with all ingredients and new kitchen supplies
Purchased toothpaste, markers and colored pencils for the younger kids (they had none at all!!)
Purchased paint and painting supplies, and had a huge work day with 15+ volunteers re-painting EVERYTHING there!!
Purchased towels, towel holders, and hand soap for bathrooms
Purchased a brush to wash dishes, dish soap and holder, new sponges, piping for sink, drain/trap, bolts and misc. tools, and general cleaning supplies they did not have
Purchased locks for windows, locks for doors
Hired one of the little boys’ dads to re-cement some of the walls that were falling apart and fix piping in the bathroom
(^So many receipts. Yes, I’m saving them all for auditing purposes 😉 See, those accounting classes did pay off…)
…Oh, and on top of all that, we’re sponsoring Franklin to go to school for 3 years. And after all that, we still have money left to build a playground, plant gardens, build tables for the new classroom and for outside, help some neighboring communities… so many ideas, SO LITTLE TIME!! (Unless I get this job in Cuzco that I’m interviewing for… Then I’ll have more time 😉 wish me luck!!!)
Oh and since I like ending with a song, check out Nicky Jam… Everyone here loves him and now I love him too. Enjoy 🙂
